Another great example of how we Serve Mosman

Wee won!

“Wee Need Your Help” was our cheeky, and ultimately successful slogan, to win $200,000, from the State Government ‘My Community Project’ grant program to build a fully accessible toilet block in the Raglan Street West carpark.

The Mosman community united behind us, we campaigned hard, won the most votes and on 14th September 2020 the toilets were officially opened.

There were some fabulously funny moments during the long campaign but none better than the moment a person wandered into the official toilet opening proceedings and asked if she could use the toilets.

The toilet block is stunning in design, uses low energy lighting, has a full side of green (growing) wall and is surrounded by native garden.

I lodged the grant application with strong support from all members of Mosman Council Community Access Committee.  The campaign team spent many a chilly weekend morning pounding the pavement mainly listening to how much the community supported the project.  Campaigning also provided wonderful opportunities to talk with people about the barriers, seen and unseen, experienced by people with disabilities and to get people thinking about the sorts of community investments that will ensure equitable access for all.

This was community at it’s very best.  Thank you Mosman for helping us become more accessible and inclusive.
