The Serving Mosman Team had worked hard to protect and preserve our precious public lands and local environment

Remember November 2019 when the nation was in the midst of a catastrophic national bushfire crisis?

Serving Mosman initiated a Climate Emergency motion at the November 2019 Council Meeting. Council almost achieved a unanimous vote. It's important to know Council was already working to improve our community's environmental and sustainability outcomes, but this initiative led to both the community and Council to formally come together on a united pathway to climate action.

Council initiated an eight-member Community Climate Action Consultative Committee Chaired and Co-Chaired by Mayor Carolyn Corrigan and Cr Tom Sherlock, which continues to guide and complement Councils services.

The battle over synthetic grass at Middle Head Oval was another testing time. In this case, the community was split, with sporting groups keen to increase field availability and minimise injuries, while environmental groups pointed to Middle Head Oval being in an iconic national park setting. The environmental impacts of installation, maintenance, run-off and disposal were all adverse impacts on the environment. It was Serving Mosman that found the way forward through identifying a natural turf specialist who worked with Council staff to produce a highly effective natural turf playing surface.

Another win-win for the Mosman community!
