Update on Woolworths supermarket DA

Woolworths proposed supermarket in the Mosman village (artist’s impression)

In November, the NSW Land and Environment Court approved the proposed Woolworths supermarket.

As you may know, Woolworths bought up several properties in Mosman and submitted a DA to build a ‘Metro’ supermarket. The proposal submitted was more modest than that which Woolworths first proposed. Mosman Council’s professional planner actually recommended the DA for approval, with conditions. Because there were many objections from residents, the DA went to the MLPP, Mosman’s state-controlled independent planning panel. This independent panel rejected the DA on the basis of traffic and parking. Woolworths then took the DA to the NSW Land and Environment Court, where the Council defended the MLPP decision. Ultimately the LEC judge found in favour of Woolworths.

The Mosman Village Community group surveyed Council candidates on the Woolworths DA and next steps. Carolyn Corrigan and Tom Sherlock responded jointly. Roy Bendall and Simon Menzies also responded. You can read all the responses on the MVC webpage here.
